Fatal Collision in St Austell Sparks Police Appeal for Witnesses – UKNIP

A shocking road traffic collision in St Austell has led to a police appeal for witnesses and any relevant information. The fatal incident took place on the B3274 Bodmin Road near St Austell around 22.20 BST last Friday, 13th October 2023.

The collision involved a white moped and a silver Vauxhall Vivaro van. After the incident, the van reportedly left the scene. The moped rider, a female in her 50s from the St Austell area, tragically lost her life and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed of the distressing incident.

In connection with the accident, a 28-year-old local male has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. Following his arrest, he was released on bail.

Following the accident, the B3274 Bodmin Road was temporarily closed while an on-site investigation was carried out by the local police. The Roads Policing Team officers have extended their gratitude to the public for their patience while the road was closed.

The investigation is still ongoing and the police are urging anyone with any pertinent information, CCTV or dash-cam footage to come forward. This could provide crucial evidence to assist the investigation.
