Violent thug jailed for sexually assaulting elderly woman litter-picking in Sheffield park

A violent man has been locked up for 10 years after brutally attacking and sexually assaulting an 80-year-old woman while she was litter-picking in a Sheffield park.

Brutal attack in Firth Park

Saed Mohamed, 23, repeatedly punched and kicked the elderly victim in the head and body before dragging her into nearby bushes. He then tried to strip her and sexually assaulted her during the terrifying ordeal in December 2022.

The terrified grandma screamed for help, pleading with Mohamed to stop. He finally fled after a prolonged, violent assault that left her with serious injuries, including a cut to her face needing stitches and a brain injury.

Life-changing trauma for victim and family

“The victim used to be very independent but now needs help carrying out basic daily tasks,” said investigating officer DC Arron Connolly.

“It has completely changed her life. She no longer feels safe doing her litter picks in the park. Her family have also been deeply affected by the pure brutality of this attack and continue to support her recovery.”

Swift justice after careful police work

Detectives tracked Mohamed down after finding his mobile phone near the scene. A warrant at his Sheffield home led to his arrest. Mohamed admitted charges of Section 18 GBH and sexual assault at Sheffield Crown Court.

“This was a violent, prolonged, and disturbing attack on an elderly woman simply doing a litter pick in her local park,” said Acting Detective Sergeant Megan Pryce.

“The victim showed extreme bravery throughout the attack and court process.”

DC Connolly added: “The judge commended the woman’s bravery. I’d like to praise her resilience after such a traumatic experience. Mohamed is now behind bars where he can’t harm anyone else.”
