Chuxiong, Yunnan Province, China, celebrated the inaugural Chuxiong Fashion Week Gala at the Chuxiong Grand Theatre on January 5, putting the spotlight on the rich tapestry of ethnic costume culture in Yunnan.
The enchanting ceremony commenced with melodious singing, unfolding in three captivating chapters: “Dreaming Back a Thousand Years,” “Hand in Hand with Fashion,” and “Guardian.” These performances provided the audience with a visual journey through the allure of ethnic clothing and fashion.
During the gala, units, enterprises, and designers who made significant contributions to Chuxiong Fashion Week were recognised with the inaugural Chuxiong Fashion Week Contribution Award. The event also marked the launch of the “Xinhua Chuxiong Fashion Week Index.”
The gala was part of the first edition of “China Chuxiong Fashion Week,” focusing on showcasing ethnic costume culture and using fashion as a medium to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning among diverse ethnic groups. The week-long event merged “Chinese style” and “global style,” creating a fresh fusion that inspired a brand-new charm.
With nearly all major national-level Chinese media and local Yunnan media conducting live online broadcasts, the gala drew over 20 million online viewers. It featured 39 exquisite fashion shows, presenting over 1,100 dazzling sets of ethnic clothing and accessories.
The event received international support, with countries like Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand participating. Numerous domestic ethnic clothing enterprises and designers in China contributed to Fashion Week’s success.
Beyond national borders, the Chuxiong Fashion Week garnered attention from international media, resulting in a total online exposure of 1.25 billion times across various platforms. This event not only presented a visual feast and a profound experience of ethnic culture but also served as a new window for the world to appreciate outstanding Chinese culture.
Looking ahead, Chuxiong aims to leverage this successful Fashion Week to delve deeper into ethnic cultural resources, lead fashion trends, strengthen cultural industries, and position itself as a distinctive capital of intangible cultural heritage and creative fashion.
