Vegan Wrap Recall Sparks E.coli Fears Across UK
THIS!, the popular vegan food brand, has urgently recalled its vegan chicken and bacon wrap. The move comes after potential E.coli contamination was detected. Anyone who bought the wrap from WHSmith before or on Tuesday 18 June should stop eating it immediately and return it for a full refund.
Recall Hits Several Food Giants
This isn’t an isolated case. Sandwich giants Greencore and Samworth Brothers Manton Wood recently recalled dozens of products amid similar contamination concerns. Their items hit supermarket shelves at Boots, Asda, Tesco, Co-op, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, and even Amazon.
Authorities on High Alert Over E.coli Outbreak
The Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) are racing to uncover the root cause of the outbreak. Darren Whitby, FSA’s head of incidents, pledged full commitment to tracking down the source of the harmful Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC).
Know the Warning Signs – STEC Symptoms Can Be Severe
Trish Mannes from UKHSA warned that symptoms include severe diarrhoea—sometimes bloody—along with stomach cramps, vomiting, and fever. In severe cases, it can lead to kidney failure. Anyone worried about symptoms is advised to visit NHS.uk immediately for advice.
As of 11 June, the outbreak has caused 211 reported cases—almost double the 113 cases recorded just five days earlier. The nation remains on edge as investigations intensify.
