Two Ryanair Pilots Killed in Motorway Crash

Two Ryanair pilots have tragically died in a motorway crash involving two lorries and a car, Cheshire Police have confirmed. The incident occurred on the M62 near Warrington on Thursday morning.

The victims, Captain Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes, 24, were in a taxi heading towards Liverpool Airport when the collision happened. Both pilots died at the scene.

The taxi driver, who has not been named, is currently in hospital with serious injuries.

A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Cheshire Police have launched an appeal for any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for Ryanair expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the two pilots: “We are devastated by the tragic loss of Captain Matt Greenhalgh and Senior First Officer Jamie Fernandes. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends at this difficult time.”

The crash has caused significant disruption on the M62, with emergency services working at the scene for several hours. The road has since been reopened.
