Shock in South Carolina as Plane Part Plummets Into School Car Park
A piece of a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III fell from the sky and landed in a South Carolina school parking lot on Thursday afternoon, sparking alarm but miraculously causing no injuries or property damage.
What Fell From the Sky?
Sources say the detached piece is the rear tail cone of the military aircraft. A high-ranking pilot confirmed the part came off mid-flight while the plane was flying near Divine Redeemer School in Hanahan around 4 p.m.
Quick Response from Military and Officials
- The C-17 crew noticed the malfunction during flight and managed to safely return to Joint Base Charleston.
- A recovery team was dispatched to retrieve the tail cone from the school car park.
- Local authorities have been contacted and the incident is under investigation to find out what caused the part to detach.
Boeing’s Bird in Focus Amid Safety Concerns
Boeing, the maker of the C-17, has faced several safety issues in 2024. Earlier this year, a Boeing 737 Max 9 had to turn back to Portland Airport after a panel blew off shortly after takeoff, raising questions about the aerospace giant’s build quality.
Officials have yet to reveal more details or any ongoing safety risks linked to the C-17 incident.
