Brighton Woman Arrested after Glass Attack Injures Two Horsham Restaurant Workers
Violent Incident Shocks Popular Horsham Eatery
A 36-year-old woman from Brighton is in custody after a shocking glass attack at Smith and Western restaurant on East Street, Horsham. The chaotic scene unfolded just before 8pm on Friday, November 15, when the woman burst into the restaurant visibly distressed and struck two staff members with a glass.
The victims include a male employee with injuries to his arm and face, and a female worker also injured in the face. Both were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Off-Duty Cop Springs into Action
Luckily, an off-duty police officer dining nearby witnessed the assault. Without hesitation, she stepped in to detain the suspect and administered first aid to the injured staff until backup arrived.
Police Clamp Down as Investigation Continues
The woman has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm. She remains in custody as detectives probe the incident.
Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme said: “This was a hugely distressing incident witnessed by numerous people, including families with young children. I’d like to reassure the community that a suspect is in custody as we actively investigate the full circumstances.
I’d also like to commend the actions of the off-duty officer, who detained the suspect and helped administer first aid until further units arrived on the scene. Officers are never truly off duty in their communities, and in this instance, the officer went towards danger without a second thought.”
