Suspect Charged in Ford Fiesta Theft Ring Appears in Court

A man has appeared in court charged with stealing multiple Ford Fiestas across Kent following a police investigation into a series of car thefts.

Detectives linked vehicle thefts from Gravesend, Tonbridge, and Tunbridge Wells between July and November 2024. On Friday, November 15, officers stopped a Ford Fiesta in the Goudhurst area and arrested three people on suspicion of theft offences.

A search of a nearby industrial unit uncovered numerous vehicle parts, which were seized for ongoing investigations.

Suspect Charged

Harley Webb, 35, of Sherwood Road, Tunbridge Wells, has been charged with conspiracy to steal vehicles, including seven Ford Fiestas and a Mercedes. He appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday, November 18, where he was remanded in custody. Webb is scheduled to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, December 16.

The two other individuals arrested have been bailed pending further investigation.

Police Issue Warning to Motorists

As part of their investigation, police are urging vehicle owners, particularly Ford Fiesta drivers, to take extra precautions to protect their cars from theft:

  • Park Securely: Use a garage, secure car park, or well-lit area covered by CCTV.
  • Use Physical Locks: Steering wheel or handbrake locks can deter potential thieves.
  • Key Fob Security: Turn off entry fobs overnight if possible and store them away from doors or windows. Consider foil-lined key bags to block unwanted communication between keys and vehicles.
  • Mark Your Vehicle: Etch windows with the vehicle registration number or use an invisible ink marker to inscribe details on the vehicle’s frame.

A Kent Police spokesperson said:

“We encourage all vehicle owners to take these precautions to make it harder for thieves to target their cars. Our officers remain committed to disrupting organized theft operations and bringing offenders to justice.”

The investigation into the theft ring remains ongoing.
