Fire crews tackled a major blaze involving multiple caravans in Roydon yesterday evening (20 December), with support from Essex and Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Services.
The Incident
Initially reported as a shed fire, the incident quickly escalated when firefighters arrived to find two caravans and several fence panels engulfed in flames. The fire spread rapidly, affecting additional caravans in the vicinity.
Challenges and Response
The response was complicated by a lack of working hydrants in the area, forcing crews to establish water relays to deliver sufficient resources to tackle the blaze.

Watch Manager Brendan Cardy, from Harlow Fire Station, said:
“Crews worked tirelessly in challenging circumstances to bring the fire under control. I’d like to thank our colleagues from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their assistance with the water relay.
The fire was completely extinguished within two hours, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the fire crews.
Damage and Investigation
While no injuries were reported, all the caravans involved were either destroyed or significantly damaged.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. A full fire investigation will be conducted once it is safe to do so.
Residents in the area are advised to remain vigilant, and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
