Two Hurt in Sydenham Smash Shuts Major Road

Two people were rushed to hospital after a nasty road crash in Sydenham, triggering the closure of a key junction. Emergency crews scrambled to the scene at 6:45pm on Sunday, 16 March, following the collision at the busy crossroads of Wells Park Road and Longton Avenue in SE26.

Swift Ambulance Response

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service were quick on the scene. They treated two injured patients before rushing them to hospital. The full extent of their injuries remains unclear.

“We were called at 6.45pm on Sunday 16 March to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Wells Park Road and Longton Avenue, SE26,” a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said. “We sent ambulance crews to the scene and treated two patients before taking them to hospital.”

Wells Park Road Shut for Hours

The crash forced Wells Park Road to shut for around 12 hours while investigators worked the scene. Thankfully, the road reopened by Monday morning. The AA reported the lengthy closure as emergency crews cleared the accident and carried out crash investigation work.

The Metropolitan Police have been contacted for an official statement but have yet to respond.

Residents living near the junction voiced worries over safety after yet another incident at the notorious crossroads. There are increasing calls for urgent traffic-calming measures and better signage to prevent future crashes.
