Heartbreak in Canterbury: Abandoned Kittens Spark Urgent RSPCA Appeal
The RSPCA has launched a desperate appeal after two tiny kittens were found abandoned in Canterbury’s St Stephen’s area. The shocking discovery has raised fears for their mother and any siblings still on the streets.
Comet’s Fight for Survival
On March 4, a frail two-week-old kitten named Comet was found by the roadside with a severe paw injury. Rushed straight to vets, Comet was later moved to the RSPCA Canterbury and District branch, where a surrogate mother cat, Twinkle, has now taken him under her wing. Heartwarming scenes show Twinkle nurturing Comet alongside her own kitten, Little Star, fully embracing the little survivor.
Tragic Loss of Estella Raises Alarm
Just over a week later, on March 12, a second kitten called Estella was found but sadly didn’t survive despite vets’ best efforts. Her heartbreaking death has left RSPCA staff deeply worried about the wellbeing of the mother cat and any other vulnerable kittens still out there.
“We are very worried there may be more kittens or the mother still out there in need of help. We’re urging anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has any information to get in touch as soon as possible,”
an RSPCA spokesperson said.
Community Urged to Help Find the Missing Family
The RSPCA is calling on anyone who’s seen a cat with kittens or knows anything about where Comet and Estella came from to contact them immediately on 0300 123 8018.
The local community and animal lovers across the UK have rallied behind the rescue effort, praising the tireless work of RSPCA staff and volunteers caring for the remaining kitten and searching for others in need.
