The RSPCA has launched an urgent appeal after two tiny kittens were found abandoned in the St Stephen’s area of Canterbury, raising concerns for their mother and any possible siblings still out there.
The first kitten, Comet, was discovered on March 4 on the side of the road with a severe paw injury. The vulnerable two-week-old was immediately taken for veterinary treatment before being transferred to RSPCA Canterbury and District branch, where he was lovingly introduced to a surrogate mother cat, Twinkle. Heartwarming images show Twinkle caring for Comet alongside her own kitten, Little Star, having now fully accepted him into her litter.
Tragically, a second kitten, Estella, was found on March 12, but despite the best efforts of veterinary staff, she sadly did not survive. Her passing has left RSPCA staff deeply concerned about the wellbeing of the mother cat and any additional kittens who may still be in danger.
An RSPCA spokesperson said:
“We are very worried there may be more kittens or the mother still out there in need of help. We’re urging anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has any information to get in touch as soon as possible.”
The charity is asking anyone who may have seen a cat with kittens or has any information about where these kittens may have come from to call 0300 123 8018 immediately.
The incident has sparked sadness and concern among the local community and animal lovers nationwide, with many praising the efforts of RSPCA staff and volunteers who are working tirelessly to care for the survivors.
