Two Men Arrested in Devizes Over Burglary Conspiracy After Wiltshire Police Operation

Wiltshire Police have arrested two men suspected of conspiring to commit a series of burglaries, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Devizes.

Multi-Unit Police Operation

At approximately 10pm on Wednesday, 4 June, officers received intelligence regarding two suspicious vehicles—a Volkswagen Golf and a Mercedes Sprinter—entering Wiltshire from the north and east.

A joint effort between Intelligence Live Cell, Armed Response Unit, Roads Policing Unit (RPU) and the Dogs Section was launched to intercept the vehicles.

  • The Mercedes Sprinter was tracked to Worton and stopped by an unmarked police vehicle on London Road, Devizes.

  • Simultaneously, the Volkswagen Golf was stopped on Southbroom Road, also in Devizes.

Burglary Equipment Found

Upon searching the Golf, officers uncovered a cache of tools commonly used in burglaries, including:

  • Crowbars

  • Disk-cutting tools

  • A signal bug detector device

  • A handwritten list of target locations and sought-after items

The evidence led police to believe the vehicles were preparing to meet and carry out planned offences.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

The drivers of both vehicles—a 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old man—were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and going equipped for burglary.

They remain in police custody for questioning as enquiries continue.

Wiltshire Police praised the rapid, multi-agency response which enabled the prevention of potential break-ins.
