Wiltshire Police swoop: Two men held in burglary plot bust
Intelligence-Led Sting Targets Suspicious Vehicles
Just after 10pm on Wednesday, 4 June, Wiltshire Police launched a crack operation after spotting two suspicious vehicles entering the county. A Volkswagen Golf and a Mercedes Sprinter were tracked from the north and east in a swift multi-unit response.
The joint effort involved the Intelligence Live Cell, Armed Response Unit, Roads Policing Unit, and Dogs Section, all working to intercept the suspects on the move.
Two Vehicles Stopped in Devizes
- The Mercedes Sprinter was tailed to Worton and forced to stop on London Road, Devizes, by an unmarked police car.
- At the same time, the Volkswagen Golf was stopped on Southbroom Road, also in Devizes.
Burglary Gear Found in Shocking Haul
A search of the Volkswagen Golf uncovered a stash of burglary tools that could have caused chaos across the region, including:
- Crowbars
- Disk-cutting tools
- Signal bug detector device
- A handwritten list of target locations and prized items
Police believe the drivers had planned a series of break-ins and were preparing to meet to carry out the offences.
Arrests Made – Investigation Ongoing
The drivers, a 30-year-old and a 28-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary and going equipped for burglary. Both remain in police custody as inquiries continue.
Wiltshire Police have praised the rapid, coordinated response that stopped these suspects before they could strike.
