Dramatic Mud Rescue in Ryde: Two Boys and Carer Pulled to Safety!

Two boys and their carer caused chaos this afternoon after running off and plunging into the thick mud of Ryde Harbour on the Isle of Wight. What followed was a tense, multi-agency rescue operation just after 1pm on Tuesday.

Multi-Agency Rescue in Action

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service teamed up with the UK Coastguard equipped with specialised mud rescue gear to haul the trio out using ropes and lines. The rescue was tricky – the mud proved to be a serious hazard.

Injuries and Emergency Response

One boy injured his back jumping off a ladder and needed to be stretchered out by Coastguard teams from Bembridge and Ventnor using a basket stretcher. Meanwhile, paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service checked another person onsite for injuries.

Firefighters Brave the Mud

  • One fire engine from Ryde and specialist units from Newport arrived with mud rescue gear.
  • Two firefighters suited up in water rescue gear to reach and recover the boys and the carer safely.

The boys are believed to be residents of Ryde House, a local care home for people with learning disabilities. Thankfully, all three are now safe and receiving care after their harrowing mud ordeal.
