Slumlord Duo Jailed for Controlling Prostitution and Exploiting Brazilian Women

Shana Stanley, 29, and Hussain Edani, 31, both from Harrow, were locked up after a brutal exploitation racket targeting vulnerable Brazilian women. The pair were sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Friday, 27 August — Stanley getting three years and seven months, Edani eight years and two months behind bars.

Fake English Course Used to Trap Women into Sex Work

The court heard the victims were lured to the UK with promises of short-term English courses, paid for by Edani and Stanley. But the dream quickly turned into a nightmare. The women were barred from attending classes and forced into sex work to pay off the “debts” of flights, passports, accommodation, and studies.

  • They had to earn at least £500 a day, often servicing 15-20 clients.
  • Despite this, they were only paid £250-£300 per week.
  • Hidden cameras were installed in their rooms, with threats to send footage to families if they refused to comply.

One victim heartbreakingly told police she was “sold a dream that turned into a nightmare.”

Police Crack Down on Shocking Sex Exploitation Ring

The case exploded in March 2020 when police were called to a South Harrow address by a terrified woman claiming she was being kept as a slave. After an argument with Stanley, she tried to call for help but was attacked and threatened with her “death warrant.” Eventually, she managed to alert officers and reveal the dark operation.

Detectives uncovered a chilling pattern of abuse. Women were forced to sign contracts to “sell their bodies” or face being stranded in the UK. Stanley controlled them with constant surveillance via hidden cameras and tracking phones.

A ‘Business’ Built on Fear and False Promises

  • Stanley acted as the ‘line manager’ arranging clients and posting ads online;
  • Edani was the gang’s boss, profiting from thousands of pounds in cash deposits;
  • Victims were made to work long hours, often sick, for minimal pay;
  • Friendships were forbidden, isolating the women completely.

One victim, a UK law student, was tricked into the ring under the guise of modelling work before being forced into prostitution. She escaped in August 2019.

Detective Lashes Out at Callous Exploiters

Detective Constable Pete Brewster said: “Edani and Stanley lured their victims with false promises before manipulating them and exploiting them for their own financial gain. They had absolutely no regard for the victims or their wellbeing, making them work long hours for very little — even when unwell. All they cared about was money.”

“Thanks to the courage of the victims, we’ve gathered overwhelming evidence forcing these monsters to plead guilty,” Brewster added. “The Met is committed to protecting vulnerable girls and women and prosecuting those who exploit them.”

Anyone suffering from exploitation is urged to contact the police, who promise sensitive handling and thorough investigations.
