Massive Russian Drone Swarm Hits Kyiv and Across Ukraine
In the early hours, Russia unleashed a massive drone strike on Kyiv and 11 other Ukrainian regions, firing 76 Shahed drones at targets across central, southern, and eastern Ukraine, Ukraine’s air force confirmed.
Ukrainian Defences Shoot Down Majority of Drones
Ukrainian air defences intercepted 72 of the incoming drones, a remarkable feat showcasing their advanced counter-drone technology. Despite this, a handful of drones got through, causing damage to buildings and infrastructure.
In Kyiv, drone debris hit a municipal building in the Obolon district. Though a fire briefly broke out, no casualties were reported. However, residential and commercial properties around the city suffered shattered windows and structural damage.
Odesa Region Also Takes a Hit
Further south in the Odesa region, drones targeted homes and businesses, sparking several fires. Air raid sirens wailed for up to five hours, plunging residents into high alert and fear for their safety.
No Casualties Yet, But Tensions Skyrocket
So far, there are no confirmed casualties from the attack. But tensions soar as Russia threatens harsher strikes in response to Western long-range missile supplies to Ukraine.
Senior Russian official Dmitry Medvedev called Kyiv a “giant metal spot” and warned of new weapon technologies aimed at the capital.
With the conflict escalating, the world watches nervously, fearing Ukraine’s civilians could face even more brutal attacks. The drone barrage signals a dangerous new chapter in Russia’s relentless assault.
