Person Dies After Train Hit Near North Sheen

A tragic death on the tracks near North Sheen station brought South Western Railway services to a grinding halt this afternoon. The victim was struck by a train just after 12:30pm, prompting a swift emergency response.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene, but sadly, the person was pronounced dead on the spot.

British Transport Police confirmed: “Officers were called to North Sheen railway station at around 12.30pm today (11 June). The incident remains under investigation and the body has been passed to the coroner.”

The fatal incident forced the closure of all lines running between Richmond and Barnes for several hours. This sparked widespread delays, cancellations, and rerouted trains.

Trains were delayed by up to 60 minutes. Key service alterations included:

  • Cancellation of Waterloo circular routes via Kingston and Strawberry Hill

Lines Reopen but Delays Persist into Evening

Network Rail announced that the lines reopened around 3:40pm, but residual delays continued until about 6pm as the rail network struggled to get back on track.
