Police Name Abandoned Newborn Found in Hackney Bushes ‘Baby Edward’

Detectives are on the hunt to find the mother of a newborn baby boy found abandoned on a Hackney doorstep. The tiny tot, named Baby Edward by hospital staff, was discovered on Saturday 25 January, sparking urgent calls for help and answers.

Newborn ‘Baby Edward’ Found Alone and Vulnerable

Baby Edward was found at around 11.40am on Sandringham Road, E8, wrapped in a white knitted blanket, dressed in a grey babygrow and hat. He appeared to have been born outside of hospital and was just hours old—around 12 hours—when left alone on the doorstep.

Paramedics rushed him to an East London hospital where he remains safe and well under medical care.

Police Plea: Help Locate Baby Edward’s Mother

“Edward is being well cared for and is a healthy, bonny lad,” said Detective Sergeant Andy Barry. “I am reaching out to Edward’s mother. You are my primary concern. I don’t know the full circumstances but becoming a parent can be frightening. I want to offer help and support — you are not in trouble.”

DS Barry urged anyone who knows Edward’s mother to come forward in confidence. The priority is her health and wellbeing, alongside Baby Edward’s safety.

Witnesses Sought After Baby Left on Doorstep

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the Sandringham Road area between 10am and 12pm on 25 January. Even small details could help crack the case.

If you have information, call police on 101 quoting Cad 3039/25Jan. Alternatively, callers can remain anonymous by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
