Man Dead and Woman Critically Injured in Shocking Dorset Stabbing
Dorset Police raced to a home in Higher Langham on the evening of Wednesday 7 April 2021 after a welfare concern was raised. Officers found an elderly man and woman with serious stab wounds.
Tragic Scene Unfolds in Higher Langham
The man, in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene around 9.15pm. The woman, in her 60s, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in bristol/" title="Bristol" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bristol and remains in critical condition. Their family has been informed, and the coroner notified.
Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit
Following swift police work, a vehicle linked to the attack was spotted on the A303 heading east. With help from Wiltshire, Hampshire, Thames Valley, Surrey, and Metropolitan Police forces, the car was stopped later in Hammersmith, London.
A 34-year-old man from Gillingham was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the suspect knew both victims.
Major Crime Team Launches Full Investigation
Detective Inspector Simon Huxter said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly died and the injured woman at this extremely difficult time. They are being supported by specially-trained officers.
“We will conduct a full investigation to establish exactly what happened at the Higher Langham address. We urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious on the evening of 7 April to come forward.”
A cordon remains in place at the scene with a heavy police presence.
