Hadush Kebatu sparked a major police hunt after being mistakenly released from HMP Chelmsford on Friday morning. Essex Police first scrambled when he was spotted hopping on a London-bound train at Chelmsford Station at 12:41pm.

Despite extensive enquiries, officers now believe Kebatu is still lurking in London. The Metropolitan Police took over the operation just after 11:30am today, intensifying the search.

Commander James Conway insisted: “Finding Hadush Kebatu is a top priority. A Senior Investigating Officer is now leading the hunt, backed by the Specialist Crime Command, experts in tracking fugitives.”

“CCTV confirms Kebatu got off at Stratford station. We’re combing through footage from London’s transport network to pinpoint his whereabouts.”

“We won’t disclose details to protect the investigation, but anyone who sees him must call 999 immediately.”
