Missing Ashes Spark Police Investigation

Police Scotland have charged three people linked to a shocking mix-up involving missing ashes at A Milne Funeral Directors, which operated in Glasgow and Dumbarton. The disturbing probe, dubbed Operation Koine, launched after families reported receiving the wrong ashes in April last year.

Arrests Made Across UK

  • A 58-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested in Flint, Wales.
  • Another 58-year-old woman was arrested in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow.

The arrests come as officers unveiled allegations of fraud and mishandling of human remains linked to the funeral firm.

Grim Details Emerge

In May 2024, cops raided the funeral director’s Springburn office, retrieving 19 containers of ashes. This followed the handover of eight urns to Argyll and Bute Council. The National Association of Funeral Directors later kicked the company out amid growing complaints about prepaid funeral plans and distressing revelations from families.

Investigation Intensifies

Det Supt Robert Bowie described the case as “unprecedented.” He thanked those who’ve come forward and revealed police have already spoken to over 70 potential victims — with more likely out there.

Financial investigators are on the case. A victim support drop-in clinic is set for 5 December to help those affected. The three arrested will now face the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service.
