HGV Pile-Up Shuts A34 Northbound in Chaos
The A34 northbound is completely closed after a nasty crash involving three heavy goods vehicles. One lorry is jack-knifed and stranded off the carriageway, turning recovery into an absolute nightmare for rescue teams.
Recovery Teams Battling Tough Task
A National Highways spokesperson said: “Recovery teams face a complex task removing the final HGV stuck down an embankment. Its tricky position means recovery is much slower than usual.”
To keep the area safe, lane 2 on the southbound side is shut too, after serious damage was caused to 200 metres of the central reservation barrier.
Lane Closures to Cause Delays for Days
- Lanes remain shut north and southbound all day for engineers to survey and prep repairs.
- Barrier repairs are scheduled overnight on January 16th-17th, meaning lane 2 closures will stay put during the work.
Traffic Chaos Between M4 and Chilton
The closure stretches from junction 13 of the M4 to the A4185 at Chilton. Drivers are warned to find alternative routes as heavy traffic builds in the area.
National Highways confirmed: “Recovery is ongoing and safety remains our priority until the carriageway can fully reopen.”
