Shocking CCTV Shows Saudi Student Stabbed in Neck in Cambridge
Chilling Attack Outside Student Housing
CCTV has captured the terrifying moment 20-year-old Saudi student Mohammed Algasim was stabbed in the neck in Cambridge. Mohammed was sitting on a low wall outside his accommodation when 22-year-old Chas Corrigan, wearing a hi-vis jacket, casually approached him. The footage shows Corrigan briefly chatting to Mohammed before walking off towards the train station. But the calm encounter quickly turned deadly. Mohammed had been socialising nearby when the pair crossed paths. Witness Abdullah Bin Shuail revealed Corrigan said something to Mohammed, who replied back — sparking Corrigan’s furious outburst: “What did you say, what did you say?” Suddenly, Abdullah claims Corrigan punched Mohammed hard on the left side of the neck while brandishing a large knife. The slash cut across his carotid artery and jugular vein, triggering massive bleeding.
Prosecution Takes Hard Line, Defence Says Self-Defence
Prosecutor Nicholas Hearn painted a grim picture: “Mr Algasim posed no threat to anybody. He was a student who had come to Cambridge to study from Saudi Arabia.” Defence barrister Jane Osborne KC said Corrigan, who denies murder, believed Mohammed was the aggressor. She claimed Corrigan thought he was about to be attacked and pulled the knife in self-defence.
“Having produced the knife Mr Corrigan had no intention of using it to cause Mr Algasim any harm. He intended to wave it between them. He will say he had no idea he had made contact with Mr Algasim with the knife.”
