The University of Greenwich has slammed down fears of a meningitis outbreak on campus. No students or staff have reported any cases, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) hasn’t flagged any issues either.
A university spokesperson stated: “At this time, the University of Greenwich can confirm that we have had no notice from the UKHSA of any cases. We also have had no information from any of our staff or students notifying us of cases.”
Escape Studios Student Hospitalised but Recovering
Nearby Escape Studios – a hub for game development, VFX, and animation – confirmed one of their students was hospitalised after contracting meningitis. The case is believed to be part of the wider outbreak in Kent.
Escape Studios said on their website: “We have been made aware that an individual attending Escape Studios had been admitted to hospital after contracting meningitis. We understand that the individual is now recovering well, and our Student Services Team is offering support.”
The school also reassured that they are working closely with UKHSA and local health teams. Close contacts of the infected have been contacted directly and given advice.
Kent Meningitis Outbreak: Latest Stats and Low Risk Warning
The UKHSA confirmed 15 lab-verified meningitis cases tied to the Kent outbreak, with 12 more potential cases under investigation. Four of those confirmed are students across four Kent schools, alongside one higher education student in London – likely the Escape Studios case.
Despite the cluster, UKHSA emphasised that the risk to the wider public remains low.
