A 70-year-old man charged with attempted murder following a serious incident in Highworth has appeared before magistrates. Gary Rogers, of Downs View, Highworth, was arrested after emergency services were called to his home on Tuesday 4 August. A 69-year-old woman suffered serious injuries during the incident. Wiltshire Police said her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, and she remains in hospital receiving treatment.

Court appearance

Rogers appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6 August charged with attempted murder. No plea was entered during the hearing. Magistrates remanded Rogers in custody ahead of his next court appearance.

Crown Court hearing next month

The case has been sent to Swindon Crown Court, where Rogers is due to appear on 4 September. Wiltshire Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. As criminal proceedings are now active, Gary Rogers is entitled to a fair trial.
