Tram Conductor Punched After Ticket Check in Nottingham

A tram conductor in Nottingham was left with a swollen face and concussion after being attacked by a fare dodger. The shocking assault happened during a routine ticket check on the tram.

The trouble began when the man was caught without a ticket and asked to get off at the Noel Street stop in Hyson Green. After initially agreeing, he suddenly turned around and punched the conductor.

The attack happened at around 10:30am on 17 April 2023. Nottinghamshire Police have launched an investigation and released images of a person of interest in connection with the incident.

PC Aaron Mulcahy said: “It is extremely important that anyone who recognises the man in these photos gets in touch with us straight away. Violent behaviour like this has absolutely no place on public transport or anywhere in our communities and simply won’t be tolerated. Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident 227 of 17 April 2023.”

Tram Operator Cracks Down on Violence

A spokesperson for Nottingham Express Transit (NET) said: “We will not tolerate violence of any kind on our trams. While these incidents are rare, we work closely with police to support their enquiries.”

They added: “We share footage from our high-definition CCTV cameras covering the entire network to keep trams one of the safest public transport options.”
