Portsmouth Lad Ben Jackson’s Birthday Bash Smashes Records with 30,000 Cards!
From Heartbreak to Hero: Ben’s Birthday Blows Up After Viral Plea
Autistic boy Ben Jackson, 11, from Portsmouth, went from a lonely 9th birthday with zero guests to an epic celebration that saw over 30,000 birthday cards rain in from across the globe. It all began when his mum, Lisa Jackson, 43, shared a heartbreaking post after no kids turned up to Ben’s party.
Lisa’s desperate appeal tugged at the nation’s heartstrings and quickly went viral. Royal Mail was overwhelmed — setting up special trolleys at their Portsmouth sorting centre just to handle the flood. On Ben’s big day, posties wowed him with a van-load of cards and gifts, leaving his eyes “wide as saucers”.
Unbelievable Gifts and Surprises Pour In
- Birthday cards streamed in from Australia, the USA, South Africa, India, and Singapore.
- Local firms handed out free food, including leftover pizza for breakfast.
- Businesses provided trampolines and bouncy castles for Ben’s outdoor bash.
- Star Wars fans dressed as stormtroopers and bikers added some thrill.
- Ben even got “arrested” by police for stealing a birthday cake — and had an unforgettable night at Waterlooville police station!
Ben was fingerprinted, shared a cell with Hampshire Constabulary’s Special Chief Inspector, and tried on police riot gear — even took a spin in a patrol car. Later, he visited Southsea Fire Station to play hero with firefighters’ gear. The Army’s 47th Regiment Royal Artillery gifted him a special plaque and Portsmouth FC dropped off a Premier League football. Plus, wellwishers splashed out on a TV, PlayStation, and iPad!
Birthday Weekend Hits High Gear with Exclusive Treats
Ben’s celebrations didn’t stop there. On Sunday, he got an exclusive early visit to a local toy store and enjoyed a second party hosted by the community. Lisa said: “This is a birthday Ben will never forget – for all the right reasons this time. When the huge Royal Mail van pulled up with 15,000 cards, Ben just sat in shock, silent for a minute — unheard of for him.”
“I could not believe my eyes at all the cards. Thank you everyone. This birthday is the best ever.” – Ben Jackson
A Message of Hope and Awareness
Lisa hopes Ben’s incredible birthday turnaround inspires awareness for autistic children struggling with friendship and anxiety. She recalled the agonising wait at Ben’s 9th birthday party: “By 2.30pm he was getting more and more anxious and visibly upset. It was the most heartbreaking moment ever. It knocked his confidence.”
Since then, Lisa’s plea has been shared over 45,000 times, flooding social media and parenting forums with heartfelt messages. She said: “I expected a few hundred cards max. But this has been overwhelming, a huge boost to Ben’s confidence. We’ll be donating some gifts to charity — there’s just too many.”
Lisa added: “Ben’s had a tough time. I hope this shows the world the challenges autistic children face and encourages kindness and understanding.”
