Brighton’s A23 Set for Two Weeks of Nighttime Chaos
Brighton drivers brace yourselves! The vital A23 stretch between Old Steine and Edward Street is shutting down every night from 8pm to 6am for two weeks. Starting Sunday, 12 October until Sunday, 26 October, urgent resurfacing works will grind traffic to a halt and unleash fresh gridlock nightmares.
Buses Hit with Detours and Lost Stops
Bus passengers won’t escape the misery either. Depending on closures, services face long detours through Lower Rock Gardens, the seafront, Edward Street, or Queens Road. Regular stops near the Royal Pavilion vanish, replaced by temporary points at 1 1 and north of the war memorial – making commutes even more tricky.
Part of £10 Million Valley Gardens Revamp
This night-time shutdown is just the latest in the £10 million Valley Gardens 3 upgrade. The extensive makeover promises wider pavements, slick new cycle lanes, and smarter road layouts. While the Aquarium roundabout demolition is still pending, the council vows the full scheme will wrap up by next summer.
Council Pleads for Patience
“There will be overnight disruption for a couple of weeks,” admitted Councillor Muten. “We’re doing everything we can to get this finished quickly.”
The bottom line? Plan your routes, leave extra time, and gear up for delays. Brighton’s latest transport headache is about to hit the road hard.
