Born on March 6, 1932, in Bebington, Cheshire, Jean was educated at Wirral Grammar School for Girls before sharpening her craft at Liverpool Playhouse. She broke into showbiz in 1962 and never looked back.

Jean was married twice. After divorcing William Boht, she found lasting love with conductor Carl Davis in 1970. The couple had two daughters. In later life, Jean bravely battled vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s, living at Denville Hall, a retirement home for actors in Northwood, London.
