Mill Road Man Slapped with Suspended Terror Sentence Over Nazi Stash
Matthew Paterson, from Mill Road, narrowly avoided jail after pleading guilty to collecting information for terrorist purposes. The 11-month sentence was suspended for two years following his guilty plea at Leicester Crown Court in December.
Terror Probe Sparked by Racial Tweets
Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands (CTP EM) launched an investigation in 2020 after spotting racist posts linked to the Black Lives Matter protests on a Twitter account tied to Paterson.
Police raided his home and uncovered alarming right-wing material on digital devices. More shockingly, they found Nazi memorabilia including an SS ring, a gas mask, and a dagger engraved with a swastika.
Harsh Restrictions and Nazi Items Destroyed
Paterson faces an extra year on licence after his release. Authorities ordered all extremist property, including digital devices and Nazi artifacts, to be destroyed or forfeited.
Detective Inspector Alan Jackson from CTP EM said: “This was a complex investigation that uncovered extreme right-wing and anti-Semitic communications alongside Nazi memorabilia in his possession.”
