A 30-year-old man from Wrexham has been locked up for grooming and sexually abusing a pupil at the school where he worked.
Toby Haslam Sentenced at Mold Crown Court
Toby Haslam, of Old Newcastle Road, Willaston, faced sentencing at Mold Crown Court on 15 April. He pleaded guilty to nine charges, including seven counts of sexual activity with a child—two of which involved penetration—as well as sexual communication with a child and possession of indecent images.
Six Years Behind Bars and Long-Term Restrictions
Haslam was handed a six-year prison sentence. He also received a ten-year restraining order to protect the victim, a ten-year sexual harm prevention order, and must register with police indefinitely.
Police Probe Uncovered Grooming and Abuse
The authorities launched their investigation after a report in September 2024 revealed Haslam had groomed a 15-year-old at his school. He took the girl to his home, where he sexually assaulted her. Officers found he had been messaging the victim via social media, with conversations turning sexual, and he had given her multiple gifts. Indecent images were also found on Haslam’s phone. The victim bravely came forward after returning to school from summer break and confided in a teacher about her relationship with him.
