Two 16-Year-Olds Fatally Stabbed in Southeast London Double Tragedy
Birthday Joy Turns to Nightmare
Sixteen-year-old Kearne Solanke smiled wide, holding a custom birthday cake adorned with candles, stars, and crowns. Just months later, his life was cut brutally short. Last night, Kearne was fatally stabbed in Thamesmead, South East London.
Second Teen Slain Just a Mile Away
In a chilling twist, another 16-year-old, Charlie Bartolo, was also murdered by stabbing in Abbey Wood, barely a mile from Kearne’s attack. Charlie’s distraught mother broke down in tears at the scene, overwhelmed by grief.
Police Confirm Killings Are Connected
The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation and are treating both stabbings as linked. Detective Superintendent Richard McDonagh said:
“Homicide colleagues are investigating and are treating the two murders as connected.”
Police identified the boys as Kearne Solanke and Charlie Bartolo. Both were discovered with stab wounds: Kearne on Titmuss Avenue, Thamesmead, and Charlie on Sewell Road, Abbey Wood.
Witness Appeal and Ongoing Investigation
Police are urging witnesses to come forward, especially anyone who spotted a dark-colored SUV or 4×4 with silver roof bars in the days before the murders near either location.
“I’m appreciative to the witnesses who have already spoken to us,” said McDonagh. “Talented detectives will work tirelessly to find out what happened and explain to the families.”
The tragic events unfolded around 5.10 p.m. on Saturday when emergency services were called to reports of stabbings at the two spots. Sadly, despite prompt medical aid, both boys succumbed to their injuries.
Community in Shock, Police Vow to End Violence
Deputy borough commander McDonagh expressed outrage over the senseless killings:
“I join the community in being deeply saddened and outraged by these senseless murders. The bereaved families are receiving specialised support.”
He added that combatting violence remains a top priority for the Met and called on Londoners to assist:
“We need the London community to collaborate with us and our partners to prevent future tragedies.”
At Titmuss Avenue, a forensics tent stands amid a cordon, where local teenagers have laid flowers in tribute to Kearne and Charlie.
