The A27 in West Sussex has been closed in both directions following a serious collision involving a car and a pedestrian. The closure affects the stretch of the A27 between the A24 near Worthing and the A280 near Clapham, with delays expected to continue into the night as emergency services and Sussex Police respond to the incident.

National Highways contractors are on-site to manage traffic, and diversions have been set up for drivers. Road users traveling westbound should follow the ‘Hollow Triangle’ diversion signs, which direct traffic north on the A24 from the Offington Roundabout, then westbound along the A280, and back to the A27 at the Clapham Interchange. Eastbound drivers are advised to follow the ‘Hollow Diamond’ symbols from the A280 to the A24 southbound, rejoining the A27 at the Offington Roundabout.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, consider alternate routes, or even delay travel if possible. National Highways encourages drivers to plan ahead as the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
