A Staffordshire couple have been found guilty of child cruelty and causing or allowing the death of their baby son, Tyler Morgan, after suffering injuries before his death in 2014.
Luke Morgan and Emma Cole Convicted
Luke Morgan, 26, and his partner Emma Cole, 22, were convicted today (May 13) at Stafford Crown Court of causing or allowing the death of two-month-old Tyler Morgan and child cruelty. They were cleared of murder and manslaughter charges.
Tragic Details Emerge in Court
On April 29, 2014, an ambulance was called to the couple’s former home on Sunnymead Road, Burntwood. Morgan had noticed his son’s forehead felt cool and emergency services rushed Tyler to Walsall Manor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:30am. The official cause of death was recorded as ‘unascertained’.
“Our first thoughts are with Tyler, who was barely two months old when he lost his life, and his extended family. This has been a difficult and distressing case to bring before the courts,” said Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Downing. “We thank those who provided evidence that helped the jury reach this verdict.”
DCI Downing also praised CPS lawyer Wendy Bounds, QC, and QCs Andrew Smith and James Dunstan for their work securing the convictions.
Sentencing Date Set
Luke Morgan and Emma Cole will be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on Friday, 21 June. The tragic case has rocked the Burntwood community and highlights the heartbreak of child abuse.
