Six-Year Horror Show Ends with Permanent Ban

Keith Wolverson has been permanently struck off the medical register after a six-year disciplinary mess. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service ruled he posed a serious risk to the public, citing his shocking refusal to admit any wrongdoing. This saga began back in May 2018 when a patient’s husband complained his wife was racially discriminated against during a routine consultation.

Racist Remarks and Dodgy Notes Exposed

Wolverson, who worked at Royal Stoke University Hospital and Derby Urgent Treatment Centre, was caught asking a Muslim patient to remove her niqab, claiming he needed to see her mouth to understand her English. But the tribunal blasted this excuse as “dishonest” after finding the patient was fluent in English. Worse still, he described her in notes as speaking “poor English.”

“The patient felt victimised,” said her husband, while Wolverson labelled the complainant as “aggressive and intimidating.”

Investigators discovered Wolverson’s nastiness wasn’t a one-off. Between January and April 2018, he recorded doubts about 15 patients’ English skills, calling relatives’ language abilities “unacceptable” and saying he “shouldn’t have to see patients who can’t speak English.”

Flouting Suspension and Dishonesty Seal His Fate

Despite being suspended in 2022 for his misconduct, Wolverson sneaked back to work at Practice Plus in Reading on 17 occasions. He claimed confusion over his suspension, but the tribunal slammed this as bogus; he was clearly warned about his registration status. Chair Emma Gilberthorpe said Wolverson showed a “flagrant disregard for the regulatory process” and had “no evidence of maintaining professional competence” since quitting practice last year. She warned his risk to public safety worsened the longer he ignored the process.

Too Dangerous to Return: Tribunal Delivers Final Blow

Despite expressing “deep regret” over his poor record-keeping, Wolverson failed to show up for the last hearing. His legal team pleaded for leniency, claiming the NHS needed him amid staff shortages. But the tribunal said lesser penalties wouldn’t protect patients given his serious misconduct and “ongoing lack of insight.” Wolverson’s permanent erasure ends the troubling chapter for a doctor who repeatedly ignored rules, showed blatant racism, and put public safety at risk.
