Blaze Breaks Out in Gosport Flat – Firefighters Rush to Scene
More than 30 firefighters battled a fierce fire at a Gosport flat last night. The alarm was raised at 6pm on 23 December after flames ripped through the ground-floor flat on Henry Player Avenue.
Smoke and Flames Spur Massive Fire Response
When crews arrived, thick smoke and flames were pouring from the two-storey building. Six fire engines and support vehicles, including an aerial ladder platform, were dispatched from Gosport, Fareham, Cosham, Portchester, and Southsea.
Seven Casualties, One Hospitalised
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service attended seven casualties at the scene. One person was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.
Neighbours Evacuated Amid Safety Checks
Firefighters evacuated nearby flats as they worked closely with electricity and gas authorities to safely cut off supply to the building. Highly trained crews used breathing apparatus, hose reels, jets, and tactical ventilation fans to control and finally snuff out the blaze.
The fire was eventually dampened down, ending a dramatic evening for Gosport residents.
