Dog Survives 40-Metre Cliff Fall in Dramatic Rochester Rescue
Kent Fire and Rescue Service launched a major operation on Saturday after a dog plunged 40 metres down a cliff off Vicarage Road, Rochester. The pooch’s terrifying fall sparked a four-hour rescue mission involving multiple specialist teams.
Drone and Rope Teams Join Forces on Cliffside Rescue
The alarm was raised at 4.07pm, sending five fire engines and specialist units including rope rescue, technical rescue, and water safety crews to the scene. A technical rescue team deployed a drone to scour the rugged scrubland below for the dog.
Once spotted, rescuers carved a path through thick undergrowth to reach the dog’s location. Operatives were then carefully lowered down the cliff face by rope to recover the stranded animal.
Miraculous Escape: Dog Unharmed After Cliff Plunge
“Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to help find and rescue a dog that had fallen around 40m down the side of a cliff off Vicarage Road, Rochester,” a service spokesperson said.
“The technical rescue team flew a drone over the cliff to locate the dog, cut a path through scrubland towards the dog’s location, and line rescue operatives were lowered over the side of the cliff where they were able to rescue the dog, who was staggeringly uninjured.”
The dramatic rescue wrapped up at 8.46pm, with the lucky dog emerging unscathed from what could have been a tragic accident. Crews left the scene after four gruelling hours of careful, expert work to bring the canine back to safety.
