A man who committed eight knifepoint robberies in the space of 24 hours was jailed on Friday (12 July) for a number of offences.
Between Thursday 12 October and the early hours of Friday 13 October last year multiple reports of robberies were received where victims were threatened with a knife and a number of mobile phones were stolen.
Some of the victims managed to track their phones which led officers to Bede Park where they found 24-year-old Seye Djli.
Djli was searched and officers found five mobile phones, a bank card and a knife.
After a Section 18 search of his home address in Cambridge Street, Leicester, officers found a further two phones.
The incidents occurred in the Jarrom Street, Mill Lane Bridge, Bede Park, Briton Street, Bath Lane, Newarke Street, Mill Stone Lane and Town Hall Square areas of the city.
Due to the swift actions of the victims and local officers Djli was arrested within 24 hours of the reports.
He was identified by some of the victims in an ID parade and CCTV evidence from the area confirmed Djli was the suspect.
At a hearing in November Djli pleaded guilty to six counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery and two counts of possession of a bladed weapon.
On Friday (12 July), at Leicester Crown Court, he was sentenced to four years in prison.
PC Austin Bruce was the investigating officer, he said: “These incidents were extremely terrifying for the victims, most of whom were approached while they were alone and in the early hours of the morning.
“Djli threatened them with a knife and demanded property, in six of those eight incidents he was successful in stealing property.
“A number of resources were deployed to locate Djli and with the assistance of the CCTV operators were able to locate him quickly. We are pleased he has admitted his guilt to all the offences.
“We hope this case reassures the victims and the wider community working, visiting and living in the city. Cases like this reinforce our commitment to tackling those who cause the most harm in our communities.”
