Cat Caught in Illegal Trap Near Lydney – Vet Fears Amputation

On Wednesday 26 October, poor Belle the cat was caught in a nasty trap near her home in Harrison Way, Lydney. This wasn’t just any trap – it’s believed to be a banned Gin Trap, outlawed since 1958 for causing brutal injuries.

Horrific Injuries After Illegal Gin Trap Snare

Despite the pain, Belle dragged herself back home. She’s now at the vets, but heartbreakingly, her leg might have to be amputated.

PC Cath McDay of the Rural Crime Team slammed the trap’s user: “To witness a pet in this situation is horrific – no one should have to go through this because someone carelessly set an illegal trap.”

She added, “Gin Traps were banned for use in 1958, and their use is governed by the Pests Act 1954. These traps snap shut on an animal’s leg or head, causing horrific injuries.”

“Setting a Gin Trap is a criminal offence – one we take very seriously. The suffering caused to Belle could result in further charges.”

Police Urge Locals to Stay Alert and Report Suspicious Activity

PC McDay urged local pet owners to be extra vigilant in the Lydney area: “If anyone has information about this case, please come forward.”
