The Metropolitan Police are appealing for information after two assaults in Covent Garden left one man in his 70s with life-changing injuries.
The incidents occurred on October 12, beginning near the Royal Opera House at 10:33 pm. Police were alerted by an off-duty officer who reported being punched in the back of the head by an unknown suspect. The officer was not injured.
Shortly after, the same suspect allegedly approached a second man in King Street, asking for directions before assaulting him.
Elderly Man Suffers Serious Injuries
The second victim, a man in his 70s, was pushed to the ground, sustaining a bleed on the brain. After temporarily losing consciousness, he required 15 stitches to the back of his head and is now suffering from life-altering injuries.
The two victims are not believed to know each other, and police have yet to establish a motive for the attacks.
Suspect Description and Appeal
The suspect has been described as:
- White
- Approximately 5ft 9in
- Medium build
- Wearing a black jacket
He was last seen heading toward Bedford Street.
Police have released a CCTV image of the suspect and are urging anyone who may recognize him or witnessed the incident to come forward.

Det Sgt Glenn Smith, leading the investigation, said:
“This was a serious incident which left a man in his 70s with life-altering injuries.
“The attacks were apparently random. We are appealing for witness accounts or any information that may assist the investigation.
“In addition, we are releasing a CCTV image of a man police wish to speak to in light of the incident. Do you recognise him?”
