West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) has announced the appointment of Simon Tuhill as its new Chief Fire Officer. Tuhill, currently Deputy Chief Fire Officer of Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, was selected following an extensive and competitive recruitment process. He takes over from CFO Brook, who decided to remain in Warwickshire.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Tuhill stated, “It is an honour to take on the leadership mantle of West Midlands Fire Service – truly, too good to turn down. The opportunity to lead, manage and develop a service so dedicated to protecting the West Midlands is very special, and I am so pleased to accept this opportunity.”

Tuhill brings a wealth of experience, having served in fire services across London, Hertfordshire, and Northamptonshire. His career highlights include handling major incidents like the 7/7 bombings and the Grenfell Tower fire during his tenure with the London Fire Brigade. Known for his commitment to keeping staff at the heart of his decisions, Tuhill is excited to lead WMFS through challenging times, focusing on community safety and staff welfare.

Cllr Rizwan Jalil, Chair of the WMFRA Appointments, Standards, and Appeals Committee, praised Tuhill’s appointment, describing him as “an extremely talented candidate” with an impressive track record. Vice Chair Cllr Catherine Miks added, “Simon interviewed exceptionally well, setting out a clear vision for the service’s priority – its people. His wealth of experience will be invaluable.”

Tuhill, who holds a Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Incident Command and a Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Public Services from the University of WARWICK" target="_blank" rel="noopener" title="Warwick" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="129501">Warwick, will assume his role pending ratification by the Fire Authority on November 25.
