South Londoners Sentenced to Prison in June

A Beckenham chef, a Welling shoplifter, and an Orpington man involved in drug trafficking are among the south Londoners who have been locked up this June. Here’s a roundup of those sentenced this month:

Arkadiusz Rachwal

Arkadiusz Rachwal, 39, of Primrose Road in Beckenham, armed himself with bread and steak knives to attack a man and later threatened to have him killed. The incident occurred on January 4 after Rachwal became angry when woken up after a night of drinking. He was arrested and pleaded guilty to assault. Rachwal was jailed for four years.

David Johnson and Caprice Thompson

Caprice Thompson, 46, of Hayter Road in Brixton, was caught trying to import £400,000 worth of MDMA into the UK. She was working for a crime group led by David Johnson, 51, of Reed Place in Clapham. Thompson was sentenced to seven years, Johnson received 12 years, and a corrupt border force officer involved was jailed for two years.

Yvonne Stewart and Robert Hamilton

Robert Hamilton, 53, from Orpington, along with Yvonne Stewart, 55, from Croydon, and Kevin Filkins, 54, from Sevenoaks, attempted to ship £4.3 million worth of crystal meth to Australia. An investigation revealed that the drugs had been sent from Croydon, with Stewart identified as a corrupt insider. Hamilton was sentenced to 12 years and six months, while Filkins and Stewart each received 12-year sentences.

Nigel Prescod

Nigel Moore Prescod, 44, of Gordon Avenue in Hornchurch, was jailed for assaulting a woman in Woolwich and attempting to pervert the course of justice. The offences occurred in March and April this year. Prescod was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

John Piro

John Piro, 48, of Anstridge Road in Greenwich, was sentenced to four weeks in prison for shoplifting from a Co-op in Welling. Piro and another alleged shoplifter were arrested after being seen leaving the store with stolen goods. Piro pleaded guilty to the charges.

These individuals have been sentenced as part of ongoing efforts to address crime and ensure justice in South London.
