A suspected drug dealer has appeared in court after a vehicle failed to stop for police in Chatham, leading to a dangerous pursuit on Sunday, October 20, 2024. The incident began when officers attempted to stop a Kia that was driving through the Medway Tunnel without its headlights on.

The driver ignored police signals to stop and reportedly drove recklessly towards Chatham town centre before abandoning the vehicle near the bus station and fleeing on foot. Officers searched the vehicle, seized small bags of cannabis, and launched an investigation to identify the driver.

On Tuesday, November 5, police detained a suspect in Christopher Road, where he allegedly resisted arrest during a search. Further quantities of cannabis and cocaine were seized from the suspect.

Kehinde Karunwi, 31, of no fixed address, was charged with multiple offences, including possession of cocaine with intent to supply, two counts of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, dangerous driving, failing to stop when required by a constable, and obstructing an officer.

Karunwi appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 7, and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, December 6.
