Thug Jailed for Brutal Assault in Central London Restaurant

A violent attacker has been sentenced to jail after perpetrating a vicious assault in a Central London restaurant, leaving his victim permanently blind in one eye.

The incident occurred on the premises of a restaurant situated on New Change Passage, near St Paul’s Cathedral when Tauream Smith-Sharp launched a brutal attack on the victim. The victim, who was on his way to the cloakroom, was targeted by Smith-Sharp, who smashed a glass into his face and subsequently hurled chairs at him. The assault took place at approximately 11:40 PM on October 14, 2021.

The ferocity of the attack resulted in severe injuries to the victim, particularly to his right eye, which sustained irreparable damage, rendering him permanently blind in that eye.

Following the incident, Smith-Sharp, 28, of Muirfield Road in Watford, was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement officers. Subsequently, he stood trial at Inner London Crown Court, where he was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and affray.

Consequently, Smith-Sharp was handed a substantial prison sentence of six years and nine months during the sentencing hearing at the Inner London Crown Court.

Expressing his sentiments on the case, Detective Constable Ufuk Ekbic of the City of London Police emphasized the unprovoked and violent nature of the attack. He underscored the swift and diligent efforts of Police in securing a conviction, thus ensuring that a dangerous individual is held accountable for his actions.

Ekbic affirmed the commitment of the City of London Police to promptly respond to violent acts and utilize all available resources to bring perpetrators to justice, thereby upholding public safety and the rule of law.

The sentencing of Tauream Smith-Sharp serves as a stern reminder of the serious consequences of violent behaviour, reaffirming the determination of law enforcement agencies to protect communities from harm and hold offenders accountable for their actions.
