Wimbledon Crash Horror: Driver Re-Arrested Over Death of Two Girls
The driver involved in the heartbreaking crash that killed two eight-year-old girls at a Wimbledon school has been re-arrested after a fresh probe. The shocking incident took place on 6 July 2023, when a gold Land Rover Defender smashed through a fence and hit a building at The Study Preparatory School on Camp Road, claiming the lives of young Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau.
Initial Arrest Dropped, Then Reinstated
A 48-year-old woman was first arrested at the scene but later released with charges dropped. However, the victims’ families raised serious concerns, prompting police to reopen the case. On 28 January 2025, the woman was re-arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in custody as enquiries continue.
Specialist Crime Review Uncovers New Leads
The Specialist Crime Review Group (SCRG) found fresh lines of inquiry that needed exploring. Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, now leading the investigation, has appealed for witnesses. He urged anyone who saw the crash, or spotted the distinctive gold Land Rover Defender around the school before the crash, to come forward.
Families Demand Full Truth
“It is important that this investigation runs its course unhindered,” said the grieving families, backing the review and calling for justice for Nuria and Selena.
