Sussex Road Crackdown: 83 Drivers Busted in Two Weeks
Sussex Police arrested 83 motorists in a hard-hitting two-week operation from 29 June to 12 July targeting drink and drug driving. The campaign ran alongside routine road patrols to keep the county’s roads safer around the clock.
More Than 20 Convicted
So far, 21 offenders have been locked in with court convictions. Others remain charged, under investigation, or released without charge.
Shock Drinking Drivers Slapped with Tough Penalties
- Andrew Jones, 56, Haywards Heath mechanic, caught with 86mcg alcohol. Disqualified for 22 months, fined £480 plus costs and surcharge.
- James Scott-Brown, 21, Henfield shop worker, blew 48mcg. Banned for 36 months and fined £120.
- Daniel Stevens, 36, East Preston builder, caught with 52mcg. Disqualified 12 months, fined £200.
- Sebastian Kelly-Manning, 26, Shoreham roofer, 52mcg. Downtime: 17 months, fined £86.
- Barry Greenhead, 39, Havant unemployed, multiple charges including drugs possession. Banned 14 months, fined £250.
- Lucian Gagea, 28, St Leonards builder, 91mcg. Ban for 23 months, £333 fine.
- Jamie Sullivan, 25, Henfield scaffolder, 59mcg and no insurance. Disqualified 15 months, fined £320.
- Joseph Murray, 23, Lancing hod carrier, refused breath sample and failed to stop. Banned 36 months plus 120 hours unpaid work.
- Daniel Millen, 30, Hastings carpenter, multiple offences including driving while disqualified. Banned 48 months and 200 hours unpaid work.
- Laura Dempster, 32, Bognor Regis nursing assistant, 86mcg. Banned 17 months, fined £120.
- Jemma Squirrell, 28, Lancing telephonist, 83mcg. Out for 17 months, fined £280.
- Andrew Cross, 61, Eastbourne finance officer, 91mcg. 23 months ban, £300 fine.
- Ainars Stambergs, 30, Bognor Regis mechanic, 79mcg. Banned 18 months, fined £300.
- Maria Ferreira-Da Costa, 56, Devon care assistant, 95mcg. 23 months ban with 40 hours unpaid work.

Sussex Police warn those who drink or take drugs before driving face serious risks and stiff penalties:
- Risk of killing or seriously injuring yourself or others
- Minimum 12-month driving ban
- Unlimited fines and potential jail time
- Criminal record damaging future work prospects
- Skyrocketing insurance costs
- Trouble travelling internationally, including to the USA
