Gosport’s Bridgemary Library Bags Government Cash Boost

Dame Caroline Dinenage has welcomed the Conservative Government’s fresh funding windfall for Bridgemary Library in Gosport. The library will share part of a £150,031 cash pot handed to Hampshire Libraries via the Libraries Improvement Fund.

£20.5m Fund Aims to Revamp Libraries Across England

This payout is part of the wider £20.5 million Libraries Improvement Fund, itself a stream within the hefty £200 million Cultural Investment Fund launched back in 2019. The fund is focused on upgrading library buildings, boosting digital infrastructure, and levelling up cultural venues across England.

This is the fund’s second round, following 25 projects that landed £5 million in the first round.

Government’s Spring Budget Pumps More Cash into Culture

The announcement follows a massive cultural sector boost in the Spring Budget, which extended valuable tax reliefs for theatres, orchestras, museums, and galleries for another two years. These reliefs have already supported thousands of venues nationwide, helping to attract fresh talent and investment.

Community Hubs Get a New Lease of Life

Dame Caroline Dinenage said: “I’m thrilled to see this significant investment in Bridgemary Library. It’s vital for safeguarding access to culture and library services for years ahead. Libraries are cherished community hubs, and this funding will help them thrive in the digital age, encouraging more locals to use their services.”

Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer added: “This investment will level up access to arts and culture wherever people live. Culture creates lifelong memories, provides entertainment, and opens new worlds to explore. It also boosts tourism, supports local businesses, and drives economic growth. This funding helps arts organisations upgrade venues and roll out projects central to their communities.”
