Drug-fuelled rampage on M2: Cuxton man jailed for vicious assault on police
A Cuxton man has been locked up for 16 months after unleashing a brutal attack on four police officers. Keith Harrison, 34, lashed out while officers tried to get him urgent medical help, leaving one cop with a torn shoulder muscle and another with a fractured wrist.
Violent rampage after drug binge
Harrison, from Charles Drive, pleaded guilty to one count of actual bodily harm and three counts of assault at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday 28 August 2018. The chaos began on 24 April when kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police responded to a disturbance at a property in James Road, Cuxton.
Officers found Harrison acting erratically after taking cocaine. During questioning, an unrelated assault allegation was made against him, leading to his arrest. Concerned for his wellbeing, cops tried to take him to hospital — but Harrison quickly turned violent.
Attack on motorway leaves officers battered
The situation spiralled so badly that police had to pull over on the hard shoulder of the M2. Inside the vehicle, Harrison kicked an officer repeatedly before forcing open the rear passenger door with his foot. When another officer moved to shut it, he kicked again, nearly pushing her into live traffic.
Outside the van, Harrison bit and kicked officers in the face, causing a dislocated thumb, fractured wrist, and serious bruising. The initial assault allegation against him was dropped by the complainant.
‘No excuse for his violence,’ says lead detective
“Throughout the incident, the officers’ main priority was to keep Harrison safe despite his erratic behaviour,” said Detective Constable Taylar Pronger. “Instead, he subjected them to unacceptable violence, risking their lives and innocent road users. He admitted using class A drugs, but there are no excuses. A custodial sentence was fully justified.”
