Suspect Flees on Bike as Mounted Police Close In
At around 3.30pm on Wednesday, December 30, officers from the Met’s Mounted Branch spotted two men acting suspiciously near Lawrence Close. When the pair caught the whiff of cannabis, officers moved in to question them – but one quickly hopped on his bike and bolted.
PC Edward Bromilow and his horse Judge gave chase, followed by PC Adam Wickens riding Penny Pendleton. The suspect escaped through a narrow path unreachable by horse, but the hunt wasn’t over.
Public Tips Off Police, Knife Found in Bush
Just minutes later, a vigilant member of the public told officers they’d seen the suspect chuck an item into a bush. A swift search recovered a sizable knife, now safely off the streets.
Police Praise Horses and Public for Team Effort
PC Bromilow said: “Judge and Penny helped remove a knife that could’ve caused serious harm. We’re proud of them and grateful to the public for helping us tackle knife crime. We’ve invited the helpful witness for a tour of the stables as a thank you.”
Aged 20, Judge is a seasoned bay stallion with 15 years service, while Penny, a 13-year-old mare, has been with the Met for eight years.
