Knife-Wielding Thug Nabbed and Jailed After Brighton Robbery
Quick Police Action Nets Robber
Harry Avis, 22, unemployed and living in Brighton, has been locked up after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of a bladed article. The teenager was caught after a chilling knife-point robbery in Norwich Crescent on September 30.
Police swooped just 90 minutes after the attack. They tracked down a suspect vehicle parked in a Hove retail park, found Avis inside clutching a large knife and stolen goods.
Sentenced to Over Three Years Behind Bars
At Lewes Crown Court on October 13, Avis admitted his crimes and was sentenced to three years and four months for robbery, plus an additional three months for carrying a bladed weapon. The sentences will run concurrently, taking him off the streets for good.
Police Vow to Crack Down on Violent Crime
“Our officers were quick to respond to the initial call and as a result, gathered evidence from the scene that enabled them to find and arrest Harry Avis, within an hour-and-a-half of the report being made,” said Inspector Dan McCarthy.
“This was a great result, and we’re pleased to see a dangerous offender taken off the streets for more than three years. We will continue to target those committing violent crime and carrying weapons in our city, and their activities will receive a robust police response.”
